The W9 Form from the States Internal Revenue Service is out there to serve two certain purposes. These two reasons for its existence are embodied in its endorsed title of Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification. The word “request” refers to the fact that it does not actually demand to be filed with the Internal Revenue Service but is instead to be taken care of by the payor (payer, or employer) as a part of its administrative records, subject to disclosure to the agency at its request.

The “taxpayer ID number” part concerns the main purpose of the W9 Form, to record information on the payee (the person or entity paid), particularly his or her or its Taxpayer Identification Number, which in the case of a person is the Social Security Number and in the case of an enterprise is the Employer Identification Number or Federal Tax Identification Number.

Speaking of organizations, various services have many things other services would not have, for example the amount of money spent from write offs or the popularity of the specific service. Even though there is no real best service on account of what the payer might have in mind, it is always essential to understand what each service is capable of when receiving help from their personnel.

The second motive for the IRS Form W-9 is that the payee may use it to avoid backup withholding taxes. With it, the payee releases the payor from the latter’s legal obligated to collect withholding taxes on certain kinds of income, payments that has got to be reported to the Internal Revenue Service. By exercising the right to not have such taxes collected on his or her behalf, on the other hand, the payee is in effect opting to do so him or herself, when filing tax returns during tax season. In this way, the payee can receive the full amount of the payment due every pay period. For many people, not having an automatic tax deduction every time they are paid suggests money that they can save and earn interest on.

While this money, if due, will be returned by the government during tax season, the government will not account for the interest that may have accrued during the year had it been saved all along, resulting in something of a loss (theoretically, an “opportunity cost,” to use an economists’ term) for the person involved. Thus, many people, and even – particularly – corporations, which can generally earn interest at much more favorable rates, will forego the convenience of automatic payday withholding in order to get the money “first,” in the spirit of the old proverb “better one in hand than two in the bush,” specifically considering that in reality it is more like one and a half in hand than one in the bush!

Practically in most communities, water damage restoration isn’t thought of as a very pressing concern, given that most communities simply aren’t prone to flooding in a capacity that makes it terribly essential. Only after Hurricane Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans did water damage restoration become a concern for people, or at least an issue worth recognition, even to people outside New Orleans who reasonably considered the flooding of an entire city to be a bad thing. At that time mold was also familiar but due to their circumstances, mold removal didn’t come to mind. What few Americans realize is that the flooding of New Orleans was a relatively small devastation compared to flood scenarios experienced in other parts of the world.

While Hurricane Katrina was no doubt a national disaster of legendary proportions, whose flooding claiming at least 1,836 lives, it pales comparison to an event like the 1938 Yellow River flood in China, where the death toll is estimated to have been as high as a million people, with several million more turned refugees and forced to flee their homes and the areas affected by the flooding. The geographical effects of this flood alone lasted for nearly 10 years, the entire course of the Yellow river itself having been diverted and necessitated intention of water damage restoration far beyond those demanded by New Orleans.

Unlike the flooding following Hurricane Katrina, the 1938 flood was a man-made disaster. In 1938, China was already in the second year of war against the invading armies of Imperial Japan during the second Sino-Japanese war, and by that point Japan had taken control of nearly the entire northern portion of the country. In order to stop the Japanese advance and to stall their seizure of the major Chinese cities Wuhan and Xi’an, the Chinese made the drastic decision to open dikes along the Yellow river, flooding the river valley and annihilating infrastructure vital to the Japanese advance.

In order to catch the Japanese by surprise, the Chinese made no effort to notify Chinese civilians residing in areas that would be impacted by the flooding, and subsequently, hundreds of thousands were drowned in their sleep. More lethal than the actual flooding was the threat of waterborne diseases, such as Botulism, Cholera, Dysentery, Malaria, and Typhus, which likely claimed hundreds of thousands more lives than the waters themselves. The floods having submerged nearly 21,000 square miles of land destroyed local crops resulting in famine and starvation among the local population not yet affected by the other effects of the flood.

In 1946 and 1947, after the end of the Second World War, the dikes were rebuilt in one of China’s largest efforts in water damage restoration, ultimately repairing the Yellow river to its pre-1938 course. To this day, the Chinese government still conceals most of the details regarding the disaster from the public.

Many will call it reckless, yet there is no doubt that cycling fast, almost racing, in New York City traffic is quite the adrenaline rush. It is one thing to go against another bicyclist – and they are out there, too – but quite another to go against cars and trucks and buses and motorcycles.

Obviously, one doesn’t exactly go against motorized vehicles. You will find no racing strategies for that. It isn’t even a contest. But part from the thrill of riding in heavy traffic comes from the illusion of passing them by. For in heavy traffic, cars can’t go too fast, relatively speaking – relative not only to their true potential but also, more importantly, to their true customary practice.

And so the daring cyclist (for it still demands quite a set of nerves) will be able to keep up with them, oftentimes, and taking advantage of lights to bypass car after car after car when cross-traffic allows it. It isn’t real racing, nonetheless it sure feels like it to the cyclist! It’s about the only time anyone will ever be able to pass car after car after car….

You will even be able to weave in and out of traffic, too, if your handling skills are good. Situational awareness is also a must. And since it’s rush hour, drivers are arguably much more attentive: so many cars, so many witnesses….

Of course, the streets of Manhattan are fun without cars, too, for instance early on a Sunday morning or, even, late at night when even the revelers have gone home to bed. New York being New York, there will still be motorized traffic on the streets, however at such times, while you cannot exactly “race” cars, there’s still just the sheer joy in having the streets seemingly all to yourself, relatively speaking.

Machine and equipment appraisals are conducted by everybody from business owners and their brokers to financing institutions like banks and credit unions. These reviews are made in order to properly assess the fair market value of physical capital during times of corporate mergers, sales, and dissolutions.

Despite the name, however, appraisals can involve not only hardware but entire facilities as well, and not just factory environments but settings as diverse as restaurants, sports stadiums, and hospitals.

Cases of litigation also make extensive use of machine and equipment appraisals, such as when negotiating with insurance companies. Government frequently encourages companies with corporate tax breaks, and many of these involve recognizably objective and independent appraisals.

When in the market for a professional appraiser, make sure to look for an individual that advocates only on behalf of the appraisal, someone who will have no difficulties providing a detailed justification for their opinion. Believe it or not, there are many in the industry who simply expect to be trusted!

Unfortunately, when it comes to machine and equipment appraisals, the potential for a conflict of interest is great, for many appraisers actually sell the very equipment they also appraise. Of course, these people will note that there’s no better expert to properly judge the worth of hardware than somebody that would know it inside-out, for example a salesman or woman – but what’s to prevent them from profiting from both sides of a sale?

Since trust is what the appraisal business is all about, it makes sense to choose those who demonstrate impartiality upfront by making their living entirely from value determinations and nothing else. While no ironclad guarantee, it does eliminate one big area of concern. So avoid potential pitfalls by avoiding such situations altogether – and needless to say ensure that the appraiser is properly certified in the first place!

Wine for medicinal purposes? It used to be a humorous excuse of alcoholics, but scientific study seems to confirm the practice – in moderation. Drinking a single five-ounce serving of red wine a day appears to duplicate the beneficial aspects of caloric restriction without any of the potential side effects such as muscle loss and decrease in bone density.

Nothing has been conclusively proven yet – because long-term studies require, well, a long period of time to complete – but all indications so far have been positive. Unlike the case of smoking, which doctors in the 1920s in fact recommended for good health (!), the daily drinking of red wine in moderation does indeed appear to provide health benefits.

Note that we’re talking about red wines in particular, not regular, and not barley wines or other kinds of fruit wines. Nor do we necessarily mean other kinds of alcohol, regardless of whether made from grains or vegetables – only red wines.

The reason for this is that resveratrol, the main chemical providing all these benefits (there are others, of course; a little on them later), comes from grape skin and is found most abundantly in red wines. Specifically, resveratrol is produced by grape skin when infected by fungus, such as that which takes place during fermentation through the exposure to yeast.

White wines, in contrast, are made with minimal contact of that sort during their production process and for this reason are not the best source of resveratrols; needless to say, all other kinds of alcohol contain no grapes at all, though all alcohol, in moderate, minute amounts, are now presumed to provide some benefits to the heart.

So grab a small glass of “red, red wine” and kick back to the UB40 song of the same name and sip slowly, enjoying your daily dose of resveratrol, polyphenols, antioxidants, and flavonoids!

Debating About Verizon Cell Phones? Verizon cell phones are those that work only over 1 of the country’s most extensive wireless networks of all, with many models being exclusive to the carrier and offered no place else. Other such models offer special features unique to the service provider, while still others are associated with the company for any assortment of reasons, such as being announced to the market by Verizon or available free of cost only upon a signed contract with the company. This is a lucrative practice that all the telecoms have engaged in since the original days of the cellular phone industry, and it is one very likely to continue

I love going to the gym. Everything about it turns me on. Just the st-r-r-eeetch of athletic tape gets me going. I can see it now, even in my mind’s eye, the taut white tape and also the specks of dust undoing it from its roll sends up into the air.

Weird? You bet. That, and chalk. Athletic tape and chalk. I dust my palms in it for kettlebells and Olympic weightlifting. Downright needed. You want a proper grip, but in addition, you want ease of movement for those split-second snatches and catches. Chalk lets you do that.

Athletic tape supports the wrists during those high-speed, high-torque maneuvers. Tricks of the trade. Some folks use tape for their knees and even ankles, too, but luckily I do not have to. But it is comforting to feel support for my wrists, which is probably my personal weakest link.

Outsiders, non-weightlifters, may well ponder why, why not just do some thing else, like machines, if using free-weights are so dangerous as to need such accessories as chalk and tape. It’s a valid question, at first glance. But these things aren’t really necessities, which is why they’re referred to as “accessories” in the first place.

It is just that many serious, competitive lifters use them because, well, we’re a superstitious bunch, and any bit of luck will do. Much more talisman than anything else, tape and chalk are comforting, psychologically comforting, and thus empowering. For at elite levels of competition, the distinguishing mark is the mental edge.

Besides, it does stand to reason how tape and chalk help; one supports joints while the other supports grip, respectively. Aside from strength, your joints and your grip are the other important elements that determine success in lifting. With a sturdy grip and solid joints, all you need to worry about is proper form and of course the sheer strength to lift. Having a sturdy grip and strong reliable joints means you’re already halfway there!

The best in educational toys throughout the 1980s was surely the personal computer. Most likely not known to the majority of parents at the time, personal computers were poised to thoroughly take over the world in another ten years, and having one in the home could give one’s child a headstart on the brave new world of tomorrow.

In fact, it has so transpired that most of today’s jobs in information technology are in fact staffed by individuals whose early fascination with computers has now lead to careers creating software, setting up hardware, or managing networks.

However in the case of many others, however, such educational toys became nothing more than a home arcade. Nevertheless, the scope of genres offered encompassed more than just simple shoot-’em-ups, and entertainment by itself was but one category among others like productivity (accounting software like VisiCalc) and art (greeting card makers like The Print Shop), however for the many kids who owned a computer during the eighties, it was all about games, games, games.

What a lost opportunity, if there ever was one! It was a great tragedy, too, for the parents who in all earnesty thought that they were buying educational toys, for personal computers were not cheap back then!

Even the popular Commodore 64, with a floppy disk drive, monitor, and printer, ran about nine hundred dollars – at a time when pizza was less than a dollar a slice and most comic books no more than seventy-five cents!

That’s over fifteen hundred dollars in today’s money, adjusting for inflation; that’s a lot for a CPU, monitor, and printer. That’s a lot for a glorified gaming console. The computer is one of interesting case of an “educational toy” ever in history. It’s the only educational toy that is truly both, and yet could very easily be used exclusively as just one or the other.

The NEMO Equipment tent is the main product category of NEMO Equipment, an outdoors company specializing in high-level design and engineering. The company was started by Cam Brensinger while still in school, and was moved after his graduation to its present location between New Hampshire’s gorgeous White Mountains and RISD and MIT, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

From the very beginning, the NEMO Equipment tent was destined to put the new company on the map, targeted as it was to bring significant innovation to the industry. Early ideas researched the possibility of creating an entire tent from one compound beam instead of sewing them together.

Once successfully developed, the company began hiring its first employees. Its experience in the field even allowed it to offer consultation on human habitats for lunar and martian exploration! And so, with its credibility thus established, the organization branched out beyond the original NEMO Equipment tent to research other designs for an increasingly diverse market of outdoorsmen and women.

The spirit of extreme sports had by then taken hold of campers, hikers, climbers, and trekkers alike, and so the AST range of products designed for extreme conditions was unveiled. Industry accolades poured in right alongside increased sales, and no less than U.S. Navy Seals have endorsed NEMO products for real-world use that’s reliable like no other.

Most recently, NEMO Equipment has been exploring greener products, work that has resulted in the first-ever nearly hundred percent recycled tent, with poles made of bamboo. Product lines have expanded to offer tent accessories and even fan gear, in response to the company’s dedicated following!

Actually, the company is staffed with people whose pastimes often incorporate company products. Being avid outdoorsmen and women themselves has surely lent the business invaluable marketing insight.

There is no reason to be bored in New York City. That anyone can be bored in a major world-class metropolitan center like that is proof positive that boredom is nothing more than a state of mind, something entirely within the control of the individual him or herself. Even a tourist trap like Zalman Silber’s Skyride located at the Empire State Building will stimulate the mind, if for no other reason than that there will be so much going on, what with all the tourists from all around the world. Don’t care for people? Well, there is always the great outdoors in New York – that’s right, the great outdoors, in the city! From Central Park right in the heart of Manhattan Island to national wildlife areas all around the so-called Outer Boroughs, Mother Nature keeps many residences in town.

And of course, if you do enjoy people and people-watching, the Big Apple presents any number of clubs and cafes at which that hobby may be often indulged. At attractions like the above-mentioned Zalman Silber one, all the peoples of the world will be available for viewing, live, in 3-D! In the final analysis, there is no reason why anyone should be bored in New York. Which, again, just goes to show that boredom is nothing more – and nothing less – than a state of mind.

But why should the mind go stale like that, as it were? Why do we suddenly just lose our appetite, so to speak, our zest? To understand it all, it’s necessary to first understand the evolutionary job of the brain. Any brain, really, but the human brain, specifically.

Generally speaking, brains help a complex, higher-order organism negotiate with its environment. Thus brains are naturally interested in what’s going on. Now a lot of what’s interesting about what goes on is interesting because it is new. But when the brain doesn’t sense anything new, it is not doing what it wants to do – take in information. Hence, boredom.

Caged animals exhibit this kind of behavior. A fish needs to swim, a bird needs to fly. Dogs need to run. And so forth. But for a human being, it isn’t simply about physical activity, though actually that’s extremely important and more often than not underestimated by most people, their own needs for physically rigorous activities on a daily basis. No, what a human being needs, perhaps above all, is mental stimulation.

And so when we are not possessed by an idea, whether inspired by a new one or enchanted with an old favorite, we don’t know what to do with ourselves. Suddenly, we are confronted with ourselves, as ourselves – without the conscious thoughts we typically take to be ourselves.

We are confronted, in other words, with an existential crisis.

Athletic tape is used by numerous athletes to help support the joints most critical to performance in their sport. It is usually used by boxers to stiffen up their wrists, while soccer players may apply them to their knees. Weight-lifters will at times use athletic tape to prevent calluses from developing on their palms.

Most varieties of tape are made from cotton, with an adhesive on one side to help with binding. It was first invented by a Japanese chiropractor for therapeutic uses but is now sometimes applied in the belief that the assistance it lends will help even in the absence of injury.

The evidence on athletic tape is really quite mixed, however, no matter its widespread popularity. Numerous professional athletes of excellent standing appear to swear by it, for instance Lance Armstrong and Serena Williams. But clinical studies have had a hard time proving substantial advantages. Could the infamous placebo effect be operating in those cases of athlete endorsement?

Utilizing tape does seem like a logical thing to do. After all, how many of us have discovered on our own how good it feels to rub a pain and even grasp it tightly? Think back to the last time you accidentally bumped your wrist – hard – against something like a doorknob. Didn’t you instantly grab that wrist and, following initially massaging it a little, hold tightly for dear life?

Compression is a recognized method of preventing or controlling swelling, and firmly binding with tape seems to conform with that understanding of how our bodies work. And perhaps therein lies its lasting appeal. It just makes so much sense! Using tape feels great, and for many athletes that’s enough. As long as it’s not in the way or be otherwise a hindrance, the psychological pleasure of compression is good enough for most people.
